Estimates, not guarantees

This is the important part, so it is near the top. Everything this site produces is a planning estimate.

Bulk material is a natural product. Its weight per cubic yard moves with moisture content, screen size, aggregate source and how long the pile has been exposed to weather. Regional practice varies in ways no national tool can fully capture, including pallet sizes, block dimensions, mix designations and the local name for a given aggregate.

We work hard to make the math correct and the underlying figures realistic, and the calculations are covered by an automated test suite. Even so, you should treat every result as a starting point and confirm quantities with your supplier before ordering or paying for material. We are not liable for material ordered in the wrong quantity, for cost overruns, or for any other loss arising from reliance on a figure produced by this site.

Not professional advice

Nothing on this site is engineering, construction, legal or safety advice, and using it does not create a professional relationship of any kind.

Some of the projects covered here are genuinely governed by building codes. Retaining walls above a certain height require an engineered design and a permit in most US jurisdictions. Fence placement is constrained by property lines, setbacks and easements. Structural work has code requirements that differ by location.

For anything in that territory, consult a licensed professional and your local building department. The calculators will flag some of these situations, but the absence of a warning is not a statement that your project is compliant.

Acceptable use

You may use this site for personal and commercial project planning, including sizing your own jobs and checking quotes. You may not scrape the site at a volume that degrades it for others, republish the content as your own, or attempt to interfere with its operation or security.

Intellectual property

The text, design, code and compiled reference data on this site belong to their respective owners and are protected by copyright. The results a calculator produces for your own project are yours to use however you like, including in a quote or a client document.

Availability

The site is provided as is and as available. We do not guarantee it will be uninterrupted or error free, and we may change, suspend or remove any part of it at any time without notice.

This site links to third party websites and displays third party advertising. We do not control and are not responsible for the content, products, services or practices of any third party, and a link or an advertisement is not an endorsement.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential or punitive damages arising from your use of this site, including lost profits, wasted material or project delays.

Changes to these terms

We may revise these terms from time to time. Continued use of the site after a revision means you accept the updated version. The date at the top reflects the most recent change.
